DeAndre Hopkins, Nate Washington, Cecil Shorts III's Post-Week 1 Fantasy Advice

Timothy RappSep 13, 2015

DeAndre Hopkins is poised to have a huge season. The jury is still out for the rest of the Houston Texans offense, however.

Hopkins blew up on Sunday, scoring two touchdowns and making an impact on a disappointing day for the team on the whole. With the Texans trailing big early, there were plenty of targets to go around for Nate Washington and Cecil Shorts III too.

Hopkins is going to be either Brian Hoyer's or Ryan Mallett's top target, depending on who ends up as the starting quarterback for the team after Hoyer was benched on Sunday. That uncertainty at the position probably won't affect Hopkins all that much, however, as he's firmly entrenched as the Texans' top option in the passing game and as a WR2 for fantasy owners.

The fate of Washington and Shorts is murkier. Because the Texans were down early and had to throw to get back into the game, both WRs got far more targets than they normally would. Of the two, Washington is probably the better bet to make any sort of fantasy impact this season, but at most he's likely to be a WR4 this year and not a player worth starting in anything but the deepest leagues.

Shorts doesn't need to be owned at all at this point.
