Johnny Manziel's Updated 2015 Fantasy Outlook After Josh McCown's Injury
Let the madness begin.
Just a quarter into the 2015 NFL season, Cleveland Browns starting quarterback Josh McCown left the team's game against the New York Jets with a concussion and wasn't able to return, per the team's official Twitter account. That opened the door for backup Johnny Manziel to step in and shine.
And he certainly made an immediate impact, throwing a 54-yard touchdown pass to Travis Benjamin early in the second quarter. That was about the end of his positive impact, however, as he struggled to deal with the aggressive Jets defense and turned the ball over three times.

So no, fantasy owners shouldn't be adding Manziel to the top of the waiver priority list. For one thing, there is no guarantee he'll even play beyond this week, depending on the severity of McCown's concussion. McCown was the unquestioned starter throughout camp, so it's unlikely he would lose his job so easily.
For another thing, it's arguable that Manziel simply doesn't have that much fantasy upside. Yes, his ability to run the ball gives him some fantasy value, but his lack of weapons is a major concern, as is his inconsistency in the pocket. There is a reason he didn't beat out journeyman McCown for the starting job.
He should absolutely be on your fantasy radar right now, and in deeper leagues or two-quarterback leagues, he's worth a flyer for owners who can afford the spot on the bench. But for everyone else, it's probably wise to pass on Manziel come waivers this week.
