Broncos' Manning Set to Eclipse 70,000 Career Passing Yards

Bleacher Report MilestonesSep 17, 2015

If Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning throws for 134 yards or more in Thursday's game against the Kansas City Chiefs, he'll join Brett Favre as the only players with 70,000 career passing yards.

It appeared Manning might reach the milestone in Week 1 against the Baltimore Ravens, as he entered the season with 69,691 passing yards, needing just 309 more to reach 70,000.

However, he struggled badly in Denver's 19-13 victory over Baltimore, completing just 24 of his 40 pass attempts for 175 yards, with no touchdowns and one interception.

Manning will try to bounce back Thursday night, as he hasn't looked like his old self since Week 12 or 13 of last season.

Last year's late-season struggles were largely chalked up to a quadriceps injury that Manning played through, but his accuracy and waning arm strength didn't look any better in Sunday's game, even after he had a full offseason to get healthy.

Of course, with a defense led by outside linebackers Von Miller and DeMarcus Ware, the Broncos don't necessarily need the best version of their signal-caller in order to enjoy a successful season.

They will, however, need the running game to shape up after starting running back C.J. Anderson managed just 29 yards on 12 carries in the opener.

Assuming he stays healthy, Manning will surpass Favre's all-time record of 71,838 passing yards at some point before the end of the season, even if he can't recoup his top form.
