Williams vs. Vinci: Score and Highlights from US Open 2015 Women's Semifinal
Roberta Vinci def. Serena Williams, 2-6, 6-4, 6-4
Roberta Vinci ended Serena Williams' quest for the Grand Slam with a superb performance in the second women's semifinal at the U.S. Open.
The Italian, who entered the tournament ranked 43rd, stumbled out of the gates as she was broken early in the first set by the top player in the world.
Vinci began to gain more confidence in the second set after she earned a vital break in the fifth game of the set. Thanks to plenty of spectacular returns on Williams' serve, Vinci kept the American out of a rhythm.
In the third set, Vinci's vital break came at 3-3 as Williams continued to struggle with her serve. Williams ended the match with a first-serve percentage of 65.
Although Vinci played a stellar match, Williams also succumbed to the pressure by committing 40 unforced errors compared to her 50 winners. Vinci had 19 winners and 20 unforced errors.
Vinci will face fellow countrywoman Flavia Pennetta in Saturday's final at Arthur Ashe Stadium.
