Allison, Fleury Have No Businees Making Comebacks

Walker DanielsSep 17, 2009

The main viral stories of the day are the "girl throws baseball back" and the Hank Baskett Colts agreement. I'm sure his Playboy Bunny of a wife will be happy to live in Indy now.

But what's flown under the radar is that the NHL is back in business. Thankfully, at least for today, we don't have to talk about the Phoenix Coyotes as we can actually talk about the NHL exhibition games. Oddly enough, though, there are no lines on preseason games for online betting.

The main stories that deserve attention is the fact that Jason Allison and Theoren Fleury are actually making comebacks to the sport.

First of all, why?

For either player or for the franchise, what is the best that can come of this situation? Allison isn't going to be an All-Star anymore and he's lucky if he makes it through a game without a concussion. Fleury is a trainwreck waiting to happen and I shudder at the fact of him getting cut. That may send him spinning out of control once again.

In the NHL, there is so much loyalty but what ever happened to just stocking your team with good young talent. Oh yea, that's what NFL clubs do. In the NHL, it's all about loyalty and recycling players and recycling coaches.

If there was a Champions Tour in the NHL, that's where Allison and Fleury should be playing but aside from that, neither player has any business being in the NHL.

I know Claude Lemieux is off somewhere cursing me and people who feel that over-the-hill veterans deserve one more shot at a come back, but even at this point, Jeremy Roenick would tell these guys to retire.
