Chelsea Transfer News: Filipe Luis Shocked by Jose Mourinho, Top Rumours

Rob BlanchetteSep 9, 2015

Filipe Luis has spoken candidly about his 12 months at Chelsea, saying he was shocked and disappointed not being made first choice in Jose Mourinho's side after his transfer from Atletico Madrid

The Brazilian has since moved back to Atleti after his stint in the Premier League and told AS (h/t Metro) he was more than happy to return to his old club after the Special One's treatment of him:

"

I always really missed Atletico; I was coming to play 50 games or more and to have to share my position [with Cesar Azpilicueta] shocked me. It makes you less important but I made up for the games I missed with games for the Brazil team.

It’s true I wasn’t as important at Chelsea. I never demanded that. What I wanted was to be a champion, because few people get that. I succeeded. But the happiness wasn’t there. It’s a significant difference. I talked to [Diego Simeone] a few times. He asked if I wanted to return and I told him I’d love to.

Luis was lauded as one of the best full-backs in Europe after Atletico's exploits in 2013-14, winning the La Liga title and getting to the Champions League final.

The 30-year-old featured 42 times in both competitions combined during the successful run, per WhoScored.com, but only made nine starts for Chelsea in the Premier League during his short tenure.

Luis was expected to become first choice at the Blues, arriving with Diego Costa from one of the previous season's most successful European club sides, but the form of Azpilicueta gazumped the left-back's chances of making an impact.

Azpilicueta has since gone on to be one of the Premier League's form players in his position, with timing being Luis' biggest enemy over the previous year. The Spanish international also has youth on his side—being four years younger than the ageing Luis—giving Mourinho no tangible decision to make when picking his best starting XI.

Pogba not Motivated to Join Chelsea

Juventus superstar Paul Pogba has spoken out about the speculation linking him with a host of clubs in the transfer window, including Chelsea, and says he is prepared to stay in Turin for now.

The Sun (h/t James Dickenson of the Express) quote Pogba commenting after Mourinho tried to grab the player in a £69 million deal: "Why would I not stay? I didn't have any motive to go, it wasn't the right time. It was never clear that I would leave and there's no reason I can't continue here for longer, let's see."

Despite Pogba's dedication to the Old Lady, El Mundo Deportivo (h/t GazzettaWorld.it) says the midfielder will snub the Blues and find his way to Barcelona:

Chelsea's midfield has been strong over the past 12 months, but their start to the current campaign suggests they need a new central operator.

It would be foolish to discount Cesc Fabregas after a few weeks of poor form, but if Chelsea could get Pogba, he would bring a dynamism to the first XI.

It was a shock Luis was so sparingly used by Mourinho, but with the game increasingly becoming a squad sport, the presence of Luis on the bench would have satisfied the manager.

He certainly needed to leave Chelsea to regain a first-team berth, like Juan Cuadrado, and Atletico are the perfect club to give him more game time.
