WWE SmackDown Spoilers: Complete Results and Analysis for September 10

Erik BeastonSep 8, 2015

Seth Rollins' victory over Ryback on Monday's Raw may have seemed like a throwaway match designed only to serve as the backdrop for Rollins' ongoing rivalries with Sting, John Cena and The Authority but as World Wrestling Entertainment proved during Tuesday night's tapings, it is a program that will continue into this week's SmackDown.

In a gigantic Lumberjack match main event, the current WWE world heavyweight and United States champion will battle the intercontinental champion with some of the brightest stars in the company surrounding the squared circle.

Will The Big Guy be able to make it 2-0 against The Architect this week, or will the biggest villain in the WWE Universe right Monday's wrong and emerge victorious?

The Wyatt Family will also be in the house Thursday night, causing all sorts of trouble for Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose. The former Shield members will team with Jimmy Uso to face The New Day in a huge 6-Man Tag Team match. But will Bray and company interfere, or will The New Day suffer a second consecutive televised loss?

Fans in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, found out the answers to those questions and more Tuesday night. Now you can, too, thanks to WrestlingInc.com!

Results

  • The Wyatt Family kicked off this week's show, cutting a promo about Roman Reigns, Dean Ambrose and their actions from Monday night, where they left Randy Orton lying in a heap.
  • Cesaro defeated The Miz with the Sharpshooter.
  • Renee Young interviewed Jimmy Uso, Reigns and Ambrose about the night's 6-Man Tag Team match.
  • Paige vs. Sasha Banks ended in a no-contest. Prior to the contest, the other members of Team PCB and BAD were barred from ringside. A brawl broke out after the bout.
  • Byron Saxton interviewed Seth Rollins backstage but was interrupted by Sheamus.
  • Ambrose, Reigns and Uso defeated The New Day by disqualification when The Wyatt Family interfered. They left Uso lying at the top of the stage, then disappeared before either Ambrose or Reigns could get to them.

  • Charlotte interrupted a promo between Nikki Bella and Renee Young.
  • Seth Rollins pinned Ryback following the Pedigree in a wild and chaotic Lumberjack match.

Analysis

As The Wrestling Observer (h/t cagesideseats.com) reported last Friday morning, last week's SmackDown was the lowest-rated first-run episode ever, with less than 2 million viewers. Those are scary numbers that WWE will look to avoid Thursday night, breaking out world champion Seth Rollins and a special gimmick match to try to draw an audience.

But the heart of this week's show is again the ongoing saga involving Reigns, Ambrose and The Wyatt Family. A really solid feud that has rejuvenated the heel trio, it has received a major boost from the arrival of Braun Strowman.

The latest development, which has seen Wyatt and his followers systematically pick off anyone stupid enough to stand side by side with Reigns and Ambrose is a smart and sensible next step in the progression of the program.

The latest chapter of Paige vs. Sasha Banks should be fun as WWE Creative begins venturing outside of the trios war and allows the women involved to compete in side programs. Paige and Banks are among the most talented women on the roster, so watching them ply their craft is always a delight.

While there are many fans who may look at any given episode of SmackDown and ask why they should invest their time on a show that Vince McMahon himself does not care about, the show has been home to some entertaining and solid wrestling.

And with increased star power, two big matches and simple, yet effective, storytelling throughout, this week's broadcast is one that (on paper) deserves your attention.
