Cameron Jordan Reportedly Under Investigation for Nightclub Incident

Matt FitzgeraldSep 8, 2015

New Orleans Saints defensive end Cameron Jordan was investigated for an incident that occurred at the city's Republic nightclub. Katie Moore of WWLTV.com reported the New Orleans Police Department concluded its investigation with no criminal charges, though the case was being sent to the DA for review.

Moore reported on Sept. 8 that Jordan was allegedly involved in a confrontation in the nightclub's bathroom with the boyfriend of a woman whom Jordan swatted on the backside.

On Sept. 9, Moore provided details from the police report regarding the confrontation that ensued following the alleged sexual battery, on which Moore said the police have not yet released their report:

Incident report says OPSO deputy told NOPD there were about 10 Saints players in the club the night of the Cameron Jordan scuffle.

Incident report says OPSO deputy told NOPD there was no video of the Cameron Jordan scuffle, but sources say NOPD reviewing that video today.

(A man) and his girlfriend were escorted out of Republic after Cameron Jordan sprayed champagne on them "as if they were wrong."

"

TMZ provided more details from the police report, saying Jordan told the girl's boyfriend, "I can have any  b---h I want.":

"

The man claims Jordan condescendingly asked, "How much do you weigh? 180?"

The BF told him he weighed 190 -- and that's when Jordan allegedly picked him up and "held him high in the air against his will while passersby took pictures."

"

Jordan released a statement through his attorney, via TMZ.com:

"

The allegations in this police report are ridiculous. Cam Jordan did not cause a disturbance of any kind. This complaining individual is apparently a jealous boyfriend who followed Mr. Jordan into the men's bathroom. Mr. Jordan did not commit any criminal offense whatsoever and continues to remain cooperative with any law enforcement inquiry into this situation.

"

"The bottom line is, we're gathering the information," Saints head coach Sean Payton said, according to Katherine Terrell of the New Orleans Times-Picayune. "We are aware of it and I'm anxious to find out more. ... I think I know Cam pretty well, but I also think at this time, I don't know all the details."

Jonathan Bullington of NOLA.com reported the Orleans Parish Sheriff's Office launched an investigation of the three deputies who would not investigate the incident involving Jordan.

"We will be reviewing the actions of the deputies to determine if any policies or procedures were violated," Sheriff Marlin Gusman said, per Bullington. "We will follow all leads in this investigation."

Jordan has reportedly cooperated fully with police and knew the woman previously. He has not been charged, and no warrant has been issued for his arrest. After Jordan allegedly sprayed the couple with champagne by accident, though, a report was filed to New Orleans police at approximately 4 a.m. Sunday for a possible misdemeanor sexual battery.

The Saints have already had to cut ties with Junior Galette ahead of the 2015 NFL campaign because of off-field issues. Galette had amassed 22 sacks over the prior two years, while Jordan had 20 in that span.

Since the situation involving Jordan is still an ongoing investigation, it's too early to speculate what it means for his future. New Orleans nevertheless has to be anxious that another marquee star from a defense that ranked 31st in total yards allowed last season is in trouble away from the gridiron.
