Novak Eyed As Potential Injury Replacement for Parkey
Monday, Sept. 28
In the aftermath of Philadelphia Eagles kicker Cody Parkey aggravating his groin in the team's Week 3 win over the New York Jets, the team is bringing in Novak for a workout, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
However, Novak is one of six kickers the Eagles are bringing in, with the former Chargers kicker competing against Caleb Sturgis, Billy Cundiff, Kai Forbath, Shayne Graham and Carey Spear, per Rapoport and Albert Breer of NFL.com.
Saints Keep Tabs on Novak
Tuesday, Sept. 8
According to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports, the New Orleans Saints aren't signing Novak at this time but "could soon" if rookie Zach Hocker struggles.
Analyzing What Novak Would Provide to Prospective Teams
Novak was a steady presence for San Diego from 2012-14, hitting 74 of his 83 attempts (89.2 percent). He only missed three of 10 attempts from 50-plus yards during that span. He's only 34 years old, and his recent success will make him a valuable asset.
Given the volatile nature of kickers, Novak could end up having his choice of jobs as the season progresses.
