Barcelona Transfer News: Nolito Denies Rumoured Blaugrana Bid

Gianni VerschuerenSep 8, 2015

Celta Vigo winger Nolito has dismissed rumours Barcelona made an offer for his services during the summer transfer window amid speculation he could be on his way back to the Camp Nou in the near future.

Speaking to Carlos I. Castrillon of Spanish outlet Faro de Vigo (h/t Goal.com's Alec Fenn), the 28-year-old said he would move to the Blaugrana should an offer arrive, but as of right now, that has yet to happen: "I never had the option of moving to Barcelona. When people say so many things and they assumed I was going to Barcelona, I had to go out and talk. Neither my agent, me or anyone at Celta called. I said if the club came to get me, I would go."

He also commented on the speculation regarding a contract renewal:

"

Today there is nothing signed, but what I do know is that my agent is talking with Celta but I try to stay out of those discussions. What I want is to put a stop to the rumours. It is a pain because everyone asks you if you are leaving. It's a little overwhelming, but I try to stay out. I try to follow my own way and focus on the job.

There will be no advantage for Barcelona in my release clause. If we agreed to renew the contract the clause will be agreed by my representative, Celta and me.

"

Nolito previously played for the Catalans from 2008-2011. He left the Camp Nou for Benfica before finding success with Celta Vigo, where he scored an impressive 13 goals and added 13 assists in La Liga last year, per WhoScored.com.

Following the departure of Pedro, who left the club for Chelsea during the summer, Barcelona lack depth and experience in the wide areas, with the current backups being Rafinha, Sandro Ramirez and Munir El Haddadi.

The club could use a veteran forward who already understands the system and culture of Barcelona, and Nolito fits the bill. Barcelona technical secretary Robert Fernandez has already confirmed his club are looking at the winger, telling Esport3 (h/t Goal.com's Chris Myson) a winter move is a possibility.

Celta Vigo are likely anxious to increase Nolito's release clause before the January window, as the player has made it very clear he would gladly return to the Blaugrana should an offer arrive. The winger is hugely important to the Galicians, so they'll make sure to receive a significant fee if he does leave the club in January.
