Carrick Returns in North London
Sunday, Oct. 4
As expected, Carrick was on the teamsheet for the game of the weekend, as confirmed by Manchester United.
Morgan Schneiderlin, who looked shaky against Wolfsburg, was the man to make way.
United Still Reliant on Carrick's Game IQ
No players in the team can manage the game from deep with quite as much style as the England international, who is an expert at breaking up opposition attacks and moving the ball on quickly. Carrick is one of the most experienced players in what is a much changed squad, which means his leadership and communicative skills are vital.
Sadly, United have had to become used to coping without him over the last few years. Already this season, the former Tottenham man has suffered a calf injury, per Oliver Kay of the Times, and he’s struggled to put together a sustained run of matches at all since Louis van Gaal has been at the helm.
United brought in Bastian Schweinsteiger during the summer to offer an alternative, but Van Gaal's best XI still features Carrick when he's fit.
