Manchester United Transfer News: Ander Herrera Approach Reported, Fresh Rumours
Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera was reportedly the subject of a deadline-day approach from Valencia, and Los Che still have designs on luring the Spaniard away from Old Trafford in January.
According to Fichajes.net (h/t the Daily Star's Jamie Anderson), Valencia may succeed in their pursuit of Herrera due to his "difficulties in adapting to Premier League football."
While the 26-year-old Spaniard has often seemed to struggle in his attempts to impress manager Louis van Gaal—often not earning a starting spot—his stats suggest he has adapted to English football with ease, per the Guardian's Daniel Harris:

Indeed, for many United fans—and Red Devils legend Paul Scholes, per Newstalk FM and via the Manchester Evening News' Rob Dawson—the capture of Herrera from Athletic Bilbao in June 2014 was the best move of that summer transfer window.
He has consistently shown a willingness and penetration in attack often missing throughout the United squad, but the recent signings of Morgan Schneiderlin and Bastian Schweinsteiger have given Herrera more competition for his spot.
Per WhoScored.com, Herrera has been handed only one Premier League start in four matches so far this season.
If he continues to be undervalued by Van Gaal, he may yet be tempted by a move to Valencia, although the majority of United's fans would likely be angered if he were let go.
As Herrera is not even halfway through a four-year contract at Old Trafford and has proven to be a fine asset, he would surely demand a substantial transfer fee.
If he were to be sold, it could allow for United to go in for Borussia Dortmund's Marco Reus, who has been linked with a potential move to Old Trafford in a high-value swap deal with current loanee Adnan Januzaj, per Paul Hetherington in the Daily Star.
However, the most likely scenario is surely that United will hold on to Herrera as he offers a creative and goalscoring presence that is lacking elsewhere in United's central midfield.
