Arsenal Transfer News: Mathieu Debuchy Wanted by 3 Clubs, Latest Gunners Rumours

Rory MarsdenSep 7, 2015

Arsenal right-back Mathieu Debuchy is reportedly being targeted by a trio of clubs having lost his starting spot in the Gunners lineup to Hector Bellerin.

The Frenchman played only 10 times in the Premier League last term in a season plagued by injury, and he is now very much a back-up to Bellerin, per WhoScored.com.

According to Transfermarketweb (h/t Alex Harris in the Daily Star), Premier League clubs Everton and Swansea, as well as La Liga's Valencia, are eyeing a potential move for the 30-year-old in January.

Debuchy recently revealed that he considered departing Arsenal in the summer and is worried about his prospects with France at Euro 2016 if he does not get opportunities at the Emirates, per French newspaper L'Equipe (h/t Get French Football News):

"

It is difficult. Even though I did not play a lot last season, in my head, I was coming back as a starter in pre-season. It was a surprise and a disappointment [to find out otherwise]. Let’s just say it crossed my mind [to leave Arsenal]. I want to be at Arsenal and to take my place back. [Arsene Wenger] told me that nothing was set in stone and that there are a lot of matches to be played this season. He knows that I am worried because, at the end of the season, there is an important occasion (Euro 2016). You have to start for your club in order to start for your national team.

"

Debuchy only moved to north London from Newcastle United in the summer of 2014 but his days could be numbered at Arsenal.

Bellerin proved a tremendous asset both in attack and defence in 2014-15, but Debuchy could thrive if he switches to either Everton, Swansea or Valencia.

It will most certainly be necessary for Debuchy to get some significant game time if he is to be selected for the French national team for the Euros. And Arsenal may be open to selling him in January to raise some funds for further additions in the new year after a disappointing summer transfer window, per Bleacher Report's Andy Brassell:

The former Lille man still has just under four years left on his contract with Arsenal, and if there are indeed three clubs interested in signing him up, he could demand a decent fee.

In more speculative Gunners transfer news, Arsenal have reportedly been given a boost in their pursuit of Paris Saint-Germain striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic as the Swede intends to depart the French champions next summer when his contract expires, per Fichajes.net (h/t Metro).

Arsenal likely still need to add a new top-class striker to their ranks as Olivier Giroud is currently the only genuine option to lead the attack.

While the signing of the soon-to-be-34-year-old Ibrahimovic would hardly be a long-term fix, if Arsenal could sign him on a free transfer he would be an excellent addition. But the competition for his signature would likely be fierce.
