NFL Week 1 Betting Odds: Patriots and Packers Among the Sportsbook Favorites

OddsShark.comSep 6, 2015

The New England Patriots will be led by Tom Brady when they take on the Pittsburgh Steelers at Gillette Stadium to open the NFL season Thursday night, and that has them listed in a tie as the biggest favorite on the betting board for Week 1 of the NFL season.

The Patriots had sunk to as low as three-point home favorites against the Steelers for their opener at sportsbooks monitored by Odds Shark, but on the news that Brady's four-game suspension was squashed by the courts that line shot up again the make New England a seven-point favorite.

And the only other team listed as a favorite of a touchdown for Week 1 is the Green Bay Packers, who are headed to Chicago to take on the Bears at Soldier Field. The Packers are a dominant 9-1 straight up and 8-2 against the spread in their last 10 games against the rival Bears dating back to 2011, according to the OddsShark NFL Database.

The Indianapolis Colts are also road favorites for this week, with their star quarterback Andrew Luck atop the early odds to win the MVP award as the team heads up to Buffalo to face the Bills Sunday afternoon as 2.5-point chalk.

In fact, eight of the 16 games on the Week 1 NFL schedule feature road favorites, including the Carolina Panthers as three-point favorites at Jacksonville, the Seattle Seahawks as four-point favorites at St. Louis, the Miami Dolphins as four-point favorites at Washington and the Cincinnati Bengals as three-point favorites at Oakland.

As well, both Monday night games feature road favorites, with the Philadelphia Eagles three-point favorites at Atlanta and the Minnesota Vikings 2.5-point favorites at San Francisco. The Niners, not long removed from being a Super Bowl contender, have an over/under win total of just seven at the sportsbooks for this season.

The rest of the games have home favorites, including the Dallas Cowboys as 5.5-point chalk at AT&T Stadium against the rival New York Giants Sunday night. The Cowboys are 2-0 both straight up and against the spread at home against the Giants over the past two seasons, while the over has paid out for totals bettors in each of their last six matchups down in Texas.
