Boom Herron Waived by Colts: Latest Comments and Reaction
After getting injured in the Indianapolis Colts' final preseason game, running back Dan "Boom" Herron now finds himself out of a job, as the Colts announced on Sept. 5 they had waived him.
On Sept. 11, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network confirmed the two sides had agreed on an injury settlement, clearing the way for his release. On Sept. 7, Rapoport reported on Twitter that "Herron had a sprained AC joint in preseason. Minor setback."
Colts general manager Ryan Grigson noted the injury was not long term on Sept. 7, saying they'd "love to have him here" but noted they only had 53 roster spots, via Mike Chappell of IndySportsCentral.com.

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
Zak Keefer of the Indianapolis Star didn't downplay the impact Herron's absence will have on the team:
Many penciled Herron in as the Colts backup running back behind Frank Gore. He ran for 351 yards and a touchdown last year while spelling Trent Richardson and Ahmad Bradshaw.
During the final week of the preseason, however, Herron suffered a shoulder injury against the Cincinnati Bengals. Many, including ESPN.com's Mike Wells, seemed to question why he was in the game at that point:
On Saturday, Indianapolis head coach Chuck Pagano didn't second-guess his choice to keep the three-year veteran on the field in what was a largely meaningless situation, per Wells:
"We're still evaluating everybody. It's easy to say, "Hey, we know what Boom is. We know what this guy is," and all those kind of things, but we didn't play the one runner. It was unfortunate that he had an injury. It's unfortunate what happened to Boom on the return. That can happen at practice. It can happen at any time. It's a decision that I made.
"
With Herron no longer an option in the backfield, Indianapolis will look to either Vick Ballard or Josh Robinson to come off the bench and give Gore a rest.
While Herron's injury doesn't radically alter the Colts' outlook for the 2015 season, it will be important for Ballard or Robinson to provide some consistency so the team doesn't need to rely too heavily on the 32-year-old Gore over the course of the year.
