UFC 85: Bedlam, My Early Predictions

Jason FouchaMay 27, 2008

My UFC 85 predictions.

Assuming that the card is not changed, (AGAIN) these are my picks for the next UFC PPV, along withย a little bit of justification behind them.

Ill start from the bottom of the card and work my way up, Ill keep it more geared towards Main Card and prelim fights that intrigue me.

Paul Taylor vs. Jess Liaudin

Well, neither have won since facing Marcus Davis but, to be fair, Less Liaudin hasn't had a fight since. I will say that I like Liaudin in this one, because Paul Taylor has just never really impressed me, besides his close win over Davis. But he just couldn't close the deal.

Winner: Jess Liaudin

Fabricio Werdum vs. Brandon Vera

I think Werdum will take this fight in what will be a strategic and hard hitting bout. Both Vera and Werdum have great hitting power, but I think Werdum has the better ground advantage and I dont believe this will go to decision. This could possibly be a number 1 contenders match, or the winner could be placed into one.

Winner: Fabricio Werdum

Nate Marquardt vs. Thales Lietes

Lietes has only one loss on his record and some pretty decent fights behind him, but I really think Nate Marquardt will take this one. Hes been on a hot streak lately, with the exception of Anderson Silva. But hey, who can beat the guy? I think after Marquardt's Strong showing against Horn, a respected legend, he's priming for another shot at Silva.

Winner: Nate Marquardt

Marcus Davis vs Mike Swick

Marcus Davis has been riding a rising star ever since TUF2. And fight after fight has been amazing. 1 fight in 7 has gone to decision, and only two others have gotten out of the first round. Mike Swick seemed unsure of himself at his new weight class andโ€”unless he can pull off something amazingโ€”I have Marcus Davis in the second round.

Winner: Marcus Davis

Michael Bisping vs. Jason Day

Michael Bisping is an amazing fighter; even at 205 pounds he was an outside title contender. And now at 185, he's faster, bigger and stronger than his opponents. I think he is one or two wins away from Anderson Silva, and he will win this fight.

Winner: Michael Bisping

Matt Hughes vs. Thiagoย Alves

Matt Hughes is a shadow of his former self, and Thiago Alves is a rising star. I think many people think Hughes will win this because he's a name. Don't get me wrong, I respect Hughes for what he has done and I believe hes got some good fights left in him. However, Alves has been a firecracker as of late and I think he has the edge in this fight. Hes faster, hits a little harder (in my opinion) and with Hughes aging, I think Alves might just have the edge on strength.

Winner: Thiago Alves
