Alonso Attracted To New Foreign Adventure

Friday, Sept. 4

Former Real Madrid player Alonso has spoken out about the final years of his career and has admitted he would be tempted with trying his hand in MLS or the Chinese Super League.

The midfielder spoke to Kicker (h/t Stephan Uersfeld of ESPN FC) about the future, declaring he is unsure where he will play in 12 months time once his FCB contract expires. However, the 33-year-old also said: "[I'm] not wasting any thoughts on it at the moment. If the club's happy with me, I could very well imagine staying here for a bit longer."

Alonso signed for the Bavarian superclub in 2014 after a shock departure from the Bernabeu, penning a two-year deal with Bayern manager Pep Guardiola.

The highly decorated player won the Bundesliga at his first attempt, featuring 26 times for the champions in the competition, per WhoScored.com.

Despite the player's ageing legs, Alonso is still a key operator for his club, as recently highlighted by Squawka.com:

MLS certainly is a natural destination for the former Spain international, with fellow midfield generals such as Andrea Pirlo, Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard all exiting top-level European football for America.

Bayern will look to the future as they attempt to gain success in the Champions League once again, so it is possible Alonso will not be offered an extension—pushing him into the arms of U.S. and Chinese teams.
