WWE Superstar of the Week for September 5: The New Day

The Doctor Chris MuellerSep 5, 2015

WWE has mainly focused on the singles titles for a long time, but the Divas and tag team divisions have started to heat up in recent weeks.

Between the Divas revolution and the return of the Dudley Boyz, it finally feels like the women and tag teams are getting the kind of attention they deserve.

Before we get to the Superstar of the Week, let's look at a few Superstars who deserve to be recognized for their efforts.

Monday Night RAW

Honorable Mention: The Dudley Boyz

The Dudley Boyz are one of, if not the most decorated tag team in pro wrestling history. The minute they returned to WWE, the tag team division got a lot more interesting.

Bubba Ray and D-Von are not only still a popular duo, but they are in better shape now than they ever were during their first run with the company.

Their time in TNA allowed each man to find his own identity and improve certain aspects of his game, and now that they are back together, they are better than ever.

They are being rightfully treated as a big deal, and they have proved their worth with every performance since returning the night after SummerSlam.

Not only have they renewed fan interest in the struggling division, but they are bringing the best out of the New Day by forcing them to step up their game both in the ring and on the mic.

Only time will tell how long Bubba and D-Von will be with the company, but we should all enjoy the ride while it lasts.

Honorable Mention: Tamina and Charlotte

It's been a rough week for two of the Divas involved in the ongoing revolution in WWE. According to the official Impact Wrestling site, Bram, who is reportedly still married to Charlotte, was arrested on some pretty serious charges. The couple are alleged to have separated a few months ago, according to PWInsider (h/t WrestlingInc.). The report does state, however, that they are still legally married.

CNN followed up that story by reporting that WWE legend Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka, father of Tamina Snuka, has been charged with the 1983 death of his girlfriend at the time, Nancy Argentino.

Nevertheless, both women showed up for their SmackDown match and wrestled as planned.

It's admirable that they both appeared on Raw and SmackDown, and they deserve to be recognized for their dedication and professionalism during these tough times.

Superstar(s) of the Week for September 5: The New Day

For anyone to take a gimmick that is hated by most of the WWE Universe and turn it into one of the most entertaining acts on the roster is not something that happens very often, but that is exactly what Xavier Woods, Kofi Kingston and Big E have done.

When the New Day first debuted as babyfaces, they were met with tepid reactions at best. The fans eventually turned against them and started to chant "New Day sucks!"

Instead of trying to make the fans like them, they took the animosity and used it to turn themselves heel. Flash forward six months, and they are two-time tag champs and one of the best things going in WWE.

All three men have blossomed into better wrestlers and talkers than they ever were on their own, and this past week showed just how much they have grown.

Their promos directed at Bubba Ray and D-Von Dudley have been especially strong, and there is little doubt this will be a defining feud for the group.

This is all on top of the fact they main-evented SmackDown against Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose in one of the best matches of the evening.

Now they are great heels instead of boring babyfaces, the crowd is actually starting to chant "New Day rocks!" The sky is the limit for these three talented individuals, and hopefully management doesn't drop the ball with them like it has so many times before.
