The Jaguars announced Gerhart has officially been placed on the IR.
How Loss of Gerhart Impacts Jaguars' Depth
While the loss of Gerhart hurts Jacksonville's depth in the backfield, he, along with Denard Robinson, had taken a back seat to rookie running back T.J. Yeldon. This injury will only enhance Yeldon's role as the primary ball-carrier.
This isn't the first physical setback for the Stanford product. He dealt with an abdominal strain during the preseason and early in the regular season after ankle injuries hampered his 2014 season. Over the course of a shaky 2014 campaign, the power back handled 101 carries for just 326 yards and two touchdowns as Robinson emerged as a more consistent and electrifying option.
Robinson has also dealt with injuries this season, as a knee ailment held him out for three games from Weeks 3 to 5.
With Yeldon as the primary back, with 156 rushes compared to Robinson's 25 and Gerhart's 20, it seems like Jacksonville's backfield won't take much of a hit. That's important, as the Jaguars, despite being at 4-7, are only two games out of first place in the AFC South.
