FIFA 16: Analyzing Latest Trailer and Career Mode Features
FIFA 16 releases for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on September 22 in North America. When it releases, fans of the series' career mode have some new goodies to look forward to.
There have been years past where the changes to the career mode were few or nonexistent, but this year, the journey as a manager has been given some much-needed depth. Here's the latest trailer dedicated to career innovations.
Action Before the Action
First and foremost, preseason tournaments add authenticity. These events are one of the biggest differences between a soccer club's calendar and that of the campaign for other professional sports teams.
By including events like the Invitational Cup, Asian Elite Cup and the Champions Trophy, the career mode now has the types of secondary tournaments in place to immerse the gamer even more in the virtual season.
The preseason tournaments also serve a more practical purpose within the mode. Managers can gain depth to their transfer budget in these events as well.
Train Em' Up
In previous versions, it was impossible to train the players on your club. Despite the ability to make deals for young players, you didn't have a way to point a player's development.
That will change in FIFA 16 and could effectively push the game's career mode closer to the level of other titles in the genre. The long grind should be challenging and fun, and this element adds to the overall experience.
Story of the Season
It's great to see a developer taking the presentation within a career mode seriously. Oftentimes, this element of a game is an afterthought. Story of the season is a presentation element that allows commentators to speak on in-season developments.
Per EA Sports, here's the objective and a few details of the mode:
"FIFA 16 will fully immerse you in the story of your club’s season. Our commentators will remark on key storylines, including notable player or team performances, big player debuts, and transfer rumors. In-game graphics and commentary will also pick up on interesting team stats for matches, and reference the wider context of league standings.
"
This may sound like a minute addition, but there's no measuring the value it can add to the experience when you hear relevant and poignant analysis about your current season.
Career modes should always be the lifeline of a sports video game series. These new additions appear to leave FIFA 16 in good shape.
