WWE NXT Results: Biggest Winners, Losers and Moments from September 2

Erik BeastonSep 3, 2015

The Dusty Classic is officially underway, and thus far, the tag team tournament has featured two upset victories.

Both The Ascension and Neville made their returns to NXT Wednesday night, only to have their homecomings spoiled by their opponents.

Rhyno and Baron Corbin formed a formidable duo, knocking off Konnor and Viktor, while the young duo of Chad Gable and Jason Jordan was impressive in their defeat of The Man That Gravity Forgot and his partner, Solomon Crowe.

With many weeks remaining, the Dusty Classic figures to be full of twists, turns, upsets and shockers featuring some of the most popular young talent on the current WWE roster. Who will emerge victorious is anyone's guess.

Victories for both of the aforementioned teams made them the night's biggest winners, but they were far from the only ones. And what about the losers? Which Superstars and Divas failed to impress Wednesday night on the WWE Network?

Let's take a look.

Winner: Apollo Crews

The athletic newcomer got the star treatment Wednesday, arriving in the NXT Arena to a big pop and proceeding to dispatch of Martin Stone in impressive fashion.

Crews is a rare performer who combines a fantastic physique with nearly unparalleled athleticism and a charisma that other guys his size would kill for. He is quick, agile and possesses a finish maneuver that, while not as flashy as some, is impressive coming from a guy who is as built as he is, at 6'1" and 240 pounds.

His dominant victory over Martin Stone is just the beginning of what should be a magnificent career for the young star.

The only thing WWE Creative absolutely must be weary of is booking him in too many squash matches. After all, they spent a year booking Baron Corbin as the unstoppable monster who demolished opponents in short order and the fans turned on him, bored of the same repetitive booking.

If that happens with Crews, the company would have done both itself and the performer a great disservice.

Loser: Eva Marie

If her performance was judged strictly on effort, there is no denying that Eva Marie would not find herself labeled a loser. Unfortunately, it is not, and as a result, she does.

Since returning to the squared circle after lengthy training with Brian Kendrick, there is no denying the fiery redhead has improved. Unfortunately, she still exhibits some of the same problems that plague her work and will ultimately prevent her from ever really taking the next step as a worker.

She is wooden, sometimes appears flustered and regularly looks like she is thinking way too much about what she is doing. The best workers have a fluidity to their work, as if they are completely aware of what they are doing next. Dolph Ziggler is a great example.

Eva Marie's work, though, is disjointed and looks very thought-out.

What the star of Total Divas needs is some time spent in the WWE Performance Center, learning the craft and understanding why she should be doing what she is not. Training with Brian Kendrick in California helped her learn the basics and how to mesh her natural athleticism with her ring work but now, it is time she learns how to put everything together to make a quality performer.

Winner: The Ascension

After a humbling first eight months with the main roster crew, in which they were treated as afterthoughts and glorified jobbers, Konnor and Viktor returned to NXT and were greeted with a hero's welcome, the NXT Universe more than glad to see the most dominant tag team in brand history back between the yellow ropes.

And the duo repaid the loyal fans, appearing more motivated than they have of late and delivering a strong performance as they battled Rhyno and Baron Corbin in a first-round Dusty Classic match.

They may have lost, but to be back in that environment, with fans showing their appreciation for them to the extent that they did, had to have felt great for a team that has been mismanaged and underutilized since being called up to Raw and SmackDown.
