Man Charged in 1994 Theft of O.J. Simpson's Heisman Trophy
Prosecutors from the Los Angeles District Attorney's Office charged Lewis Eugene Starks Jr. with receiving stolen property after he allegedly attempted to sell a replica of O.J. Simpson's Heisman Trophy, per the Associated Press (via ESPN.com).
If found guilty of the charge, Starks could face six years in prison.
The replica copy of the Heisman was given to the University of Southern California in 1968 as is the custom with every award winner. That trophy, along with additional memorabilia of Simpson's, was stolen from the athletic department lobby in 1994 while Simpson was on trial for the murders of Ron Goldman and Nicole Brown Simpson.
