Boxer Robin Deakin Wins 1st Fight in 9 Years After 51 Straight Losses

Arman WaliaSep 2, 2015

Robin Deakin has been dubbed "Britain's Worst Boxer."

With a nickname like that, you have to be pretty bad.

To run down some backstory, Deakin actually won his first bout in 2006 but then dropped his next 51 fights, including 12 by knockout. His boxing license was even revoked for his own safety because authorities thought he'd never win.

Despite his horrendous record, Deakin never gave up. All of his hard work was finally rewarded, as he won his first fight in nine years against Deniss Kornilovs in London on Saturday.

Oh yeah, he's just getting started.

"I'm a fighter. I'm going to fight my way back to the top—you'll see," he told Ben Cusack of the Daily Mirror.

For someone who didn't win a fight in almost a decade, the 29-year-old was quick to call out his haters after the victory.

"All those people that called me Britain's worst boxer can eat their words—they just made me punch harder," Deakin said, according to Cusack. "People saying I'm the worst made me stronger. I did everything different this time and worked my hardest—and it showed. ... I'm over the moon."

He even gave himself a pretty heavy nickname:

If you ever feel down or in need of motivation, just think of this guy.
