Cristiano Ronaldo met Martunis at Portugal training, capping a remarkable story with origins tracing back to the tragic 2004 tsunami.
Martunis, from Indonesia, survived the natural disaster as a young boy, spending three weeks stuck in a swamp, eating washed-up noodles and drinking puddle water.
He became iconic, as the Daily Mail reported, after pictures emerged of him in a Ronaldo Portugal shirt—he had been playing football in it at the time the tsunami struck.
When he was safe, he met Ronaldo and a host of other Portugal stars.
Now 17, he signed for Sporting CP in the summer—Ronaldo's former club—and met his hero again at the beginning of his own football journey.
