Twitter Reacts as Arsenal Fail to Make Any Outfield Summer Signings
It was a relatively quiet summer deadline day, but nowhere was the silence more deafening than the Emirates, where Arsenal failed to bring in any outfield talent for the coming season:

Never ones to take off-the-field frustration lightly, Arsenal's fanbase were predictably unhappy with Arsene Wenger and the club's lack of transfer action:
"I wish I was as good as Wenger at saving money

"Wenger is stealing a living. Absolute disgrace of a manager.

"Legit if we can win anything bigger than an FA Cup the rest of Wenger's tenure I'll never say a bad word against him again. Doubt it tho.

"Judge you in May Arsene? I'll judge you now. You've failed to turn #Arsenal into title contenders despite having £200m to spend in 92 days.

The Gunners gaffer enjoys the support of a loyal "Wenger Knows Best" contingent, but even some of his staunch advocates have been turned by his latest refusal to put his hand in his pocket:
Arsenal fan Mike Sanz, meanwhile, was in top form with his self-deprecating banter.

"It's simple. 1) Sack Wenger. 2) Hire new manager. 3) Sign a world-class striker & DM. 4) Sack new manager. 5) Rehire Wenger. Job done.

Piers Morgan rarely has a good word to say about Wenger, and the former tabloid editor was in a typically bullish mood on deadline day. One of his tweets revealed Arsenal are by no means the Kings of Net Spend these days:
Gunners fans were handed some solace, however, by the release of a (fictional) new book on the matter:
Some of Arsenal's fanbase were clearly able to see humour in the situation, but not as much humour as fans of other clubs who were ready and waiting to poke fun at them via social media:
Even Heathrow Airport managed to land an incisive dig:
The Guardian's Barney Ronay, meanwhile, offered a practical solution:
Ronay's suggestion may come in handy, seeing as Wenger's tried-and-tested excuse for a lack of transfer activity is no longer feasible:
The conclusion of the summer window left Arsenal fans frustrated, angry and loaded with an excuse should a dearth of silverware occur this season. But at least they won't be alone in the transfer doldrums; they will be able to cry on the shoulders of their friends down the road at Tottenham, who have also not lived up to expectations in the market:
