Though you'll hardly need reminding, clashes between Liverpool and United are often full-blooded affairs:

Of course being a charity legends match the tackles probably won't be flying in so readily, but the rivalry between the two clubs should still produce a competitive affair with both sides desperate to earn bragging rights.

More importantly, there should be plenty of goals on display.

Liverpool have been stoking the fire ahead of the match, sharing this thunderbolt from Steven Gerrard against the Red Devils:

Gerrard is still on duty with LA Galaxy and so won't be featuring in the game, but there's plenty to whet Liverpool fans' appetites.

According to James Carroll of Liverpool's official website, the Reds' all-time leading goalscorer Ian Rush will be at the helm for the legends team. Captaining the side will be Robbie Fowler, who hit 183 goals for Liverpool in two spells at the club.

The rest of the squad is as follows: Jason McAteer, Dietmar Hamann, Sander Westerveld, Phil Babb, Stephane Henchoz, Luis Garcia, Vladimir Smicer, Bjorn Tore Kvarme, Patrik Berger, Jerzy Dudek, David Thompson, Salif Diao, Steve Harkness and Abel Xavier.

According to Jack Simpkin of the Daily Mirror, Rush said: "These matches are notorious for their competitive rivalry and this game will be no exception. The lads are all looking forward to pulling the boots back on and, as manager, I’ll personally be making sure they give it their all when they step onto that pitch."

As for United, former skipper Bryan Robson will manage the side while full-back Denis Irwin, who made over 500 appearances for the Red Devils, will lead the team out.

Adam Marshall reported on their official website the rest of their 15-man squad: Raimond van der Gouw, Kevin Pilkington; Russell Beardsmore, Clayton Blackmore, Ronny Johnsen, Lee Martin; Jesper Blomqvist, Quinton Fortune, Keith Gillespie, Karel Poborsky, Mickey Thomas, Ben Thornley; Dwight Yorke.

Per Simpkin's report, Irwin said:

"

As former players, we always look forward to meeting back up to play in these matches and I’m sure this will be a good competitive match. I’m a trustee for Manchester United Foundation and we do a lot of work in the local community so it’s great that we have matches to raise funds for great causes.

"

Legends matches are often entertaining affairs and with some of the players set to be on show here there's little reason to doubt Thursday's game will be any different.

Most importantly, the match will hopefully raise plenty of money for the clubs' respective community projects.
