Barcelona Transfer News: Major Blaugrana Rumours, Plans After Deadline Day

Gianni VerschuerenSep 1, 2015

New Barcelona President Josep Maria Bartomeu will start his mission to transform the club now that the summer transfer window has come to a close, placing an emphasis on changing the structure of the board, making away matches more accessible to the fans and increasing sponsorship deals with an eye on the transfer market.

As reported by Albert Masnou of Sport, the latter will be pivotal, with sponsorship negotiations on the horizon:

"

During campaign, QSI submitted a bid to renew its current sponsorship but Bartomeu said he would leave the decision to the elected president.

Now, he is not willing to give up the 60 million pledged by Qatar but wants more because it believes that the club should be the best paid in the world. Manel Arroyo's successor, Javier Faus, is in charge of this area, and plans to travel to Doha in the near future to sit with Hassan Al Tawadi, Barça's partner in Qatar.

At the same time, the club has an offer on the table from an Asian company announced by Bartomeu in the campaign and in recent weeks a third offer has come that excites the board.

The president does not want to have to decide on specifics but his aim is to seek a place in the club for them all. And to collect all the money. It is an aspect that must be addressed to achieve revenue rises.

Money certainly hasn't been an issue for the Blaugrana of late given their activity during the summer window, despite being under a transfer embargo. The likes of Arda Turan and Aleix Vidal arrived at the club knowing full well they won't be able to play until January, and once the ban is lifted, more signings are expected.

Former Barcelona star Nolito has been rumoured as a possible target to replace Pedro, who left for Chelsea in August, and the 28-year-old has already confirmed he would never say no to the Catalans, per EFE (h/t AS, via ESPN FC).

The club could also use a young stud centre-back to sit and learn behind Gerard Pique and Javier Mascherano, and there are strong indications Barcelona will make a push for Juventus star Paul Pogba next season, per Cadena COPE (h/t the MailOnline's Anthony Hay).

All of these moves will cost money, and while the Blaugrana have plenty of reserves, things are about to get a lot more interesting with the new Premier League TV deal kicking in. The deal smashed all existing records, per BBC Sport, and while the league's spending in 2015 has been impressive, it's nothing compared to what could happen next year, per the Guardian's David Conn:

In the past few years, clubs like Barcelona and Real Madrid have dominated the transfer market, signing the biggest stars in the sport ahead of the likes of Manchester City, Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain. Their finances and prestige make them tantalising destinations for players, but people like Bartomeu have to keep working to keep hold of that advantage.

The challenge that lies ahead is ensuring the Premier League's elite don't bridge the gap with their La Liga counterparts, and from a financial level, the English clubs' work is done. If Bartomeu's plan manages to bring in the extra sponsorship money, it may not matter, but it goes to show just how much work the Blaugrana president has ahead of him.
