Chelsea Transfer News: Latest on Marquinhos and Top Blues Deadline Day Rumours

Christopher SimpsonSep 1, 2015

Chelsea have had two deadline day bids for Paris Saint-Germain centre-back Marquinhos rejected.

That's according to Sky Sports, who report Chelsea "have offered two separate sums between the £25.7m and £40.4m-mark" for the defender.

Journalist Mohamed Bouhafsi (via Bleacher Report's Ligue 1 expert Jonathan Johnson) reported on Saturday the Blues enquired about the 21-year-old but were unequivocally dismissed:

The defender is an outstanding prospect and is steadily earning more and more opportunities with PSG's first team, making 25 appearances in Ligue 1 last season and seven in the Champions League.

Indeed, Johnson believes the Brazilian is a crucial member of Le Parisiens' team:

The Blues are clearly targeting more defensive reinforcements after conceding nine goals in their first four matches, with John Terry and Branislav Ivanovic looking unusually vulnerable.

Sky Sports also report Chelsea are pursuing Reading centre-back Michael Hector in a £4 million deal.

The 23-year-old is a 6'4", physical defender who excels in winning the ball through tackles and in the air.

The Times' Matt Hughes believes the deal will keep the Jamaican international with the Royals this season:

Hector is a promising talent, though less ready to make the step into Chelsea's first XI than Marquinhos, so the Blues pursuing multiple targets makes sense.

Both have promising futures ahead though, so if Chelsea can land the pair they have made very strong strides in finding long-term replacements for Terry and Gary Cahill.
