Buckeyes Defense Gets No Help

Well the defense played hard, all game. Heart, effort and passion were evident. Daniel "Boom" Herron gave his all, but at 193 pounds his efforts were met by the attacking USC defense. The o-line gave effort, but struggled with the speed and schemes. The wide receivers real opportunities were limited. Brandon Saine was the star.

So what was the problem? I have to call it like I see it. OSU quarterback play was the big problem. Terrelle Pryor has taken responsibility for the loss and should. He has started yapping about could a, should a, would a, we had them beat. He promises we will be back in the National Championship hunt. Terrelle, your only opportunity there may have been riding the bench in Happy Valley. The two minute offense was a joke. I don't believe there was a completion on third down that resulted in a first down. He was sacked on third down while in field goal position. Pryor only seemed determined on a couple of plays, too late. Former Buckeyes Herbstreit and Spielman have both questioned his toughness. A lot of running out of bounds or going down on first contact seems to be happening. How many times were time outs squandered on third down? This quarterback has a long way to go. The true freshman quarterback was better this day and looked like he has more upside as a QB.

This was classic Tressel Ball. Close to the sweater vest, we call it. He won the field position game. His defense was attacking. But ten first downs. USC ran seventeen more plays. That seems like a lot of snaps to be on the field. 

Has it hurt that Gentleman Jim rarely executes the two minute offense to not embarrass the opponents. In the Navy game he let off the gas and it almost cost him. Is he too nice of guy? Everybody loves him and Raymond.

Is there something wrong with wanting to beat your opponent as badly as you can? At Ohio State it is rarely pursued. 

I don't think the Buckeyes can win the Big Ten this year. The game at Penn State should determine it.
