Report: Florence Informs Teams of Comeback Attempt
Sunday, August 30
Mike Garafolo of Fox Sports 1 reported the 34-year-old Florence "believes he has some good football left" in him after 11 full seasons in the league.
The San Diego Chargers drafted Florence as a second-round pick in 2003. Florence spent five seasons there and went to the Jacksonville Jaguars for one year before becoming a three-year starter for the Buffalo Bills. He finished his career on one-year stints with the Detroit Lions and Carolina Panthers in 2012 and 2013, respectively.
Detroit released Florence prior to last season, and he didn't find anywhere else to land thereafter. Florence then announced his retirement to the National Football Post this April, but it didn't take long for him to change his mind.
Florence has registered 20 interceptions in his time as a pro. His immense experience and instincts ought to afford him a decent shot at making a roster—provided he's stayed close enough to football shape after not playing the 2014 campaign.
It may take awhile for Florence to be game-ready, which any potential suitor will have to bear in mind. At the least Florence can be a solid presence as a mentor for a team with a youthful secondary or otherwise a low-risk player to acquire for depth purposes.
