Mike ChiariAug 29, 2015

New York Jets center Nick Mangold is known for stopping defenders in their tracks, and the six-time Pro Bowler continued that trend off the field by helping put the brakes on a New Jersey crime spree.

According to ESPN.com's Rich Cimini, the 31-year-old veteran called Chatham, New Jersey, police when his car alarm went off at 5:30 a.m. ET on Aug. 23. That resulted in five suspects being taken into custody in connection with 48 burglaries that have recently occurred in the New Jersey area.

In addition to his crime-fighting prowess, the former first-round pick figures to be a huge part of the Jets' efforts to turn things around in 2015.

New York is coming off a disappointing four-win season, but with new head coach Todd Bowles at the helm and a strong defense in place, improvement is expected.

Offensive progress will be key for the Jets, and Mangold's steady presence should help immensely in that regard.

Defensive linemen already know that testing the two-time All-Pro selection rarely ends well, and now some alleged burglars are aware of it as well.
