Jeremy Maclin Tweets Hatred for Fantasy Football, ESPN's Matthew Berry Responds

Katie RichcreekAug 29, 2015

Jeremy Maclin doesn't care about your fantasy football team, and he wants you to know it—or at least all 234,000 of his Twitter followers.

The Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver tweeted his distaste for the activity Saturday, calling it "sad":

"

It amazes me how "Fantasy Football" is the only football that some of you know. It's sad. News flash for yall: I don't give a damn about ur "Fantasy" football team. #ChiefsKingdom

The tweet ignited an exchange between him and ESPN senior fantasy analyst Matthew Berry, who responded to the tweet in agreement that Maclin shouldn't or doesn't need to care about anyone's fantasy football team but adding he didn't need to insult fans:

Berry then followed it up with two additional tweets on the matter, saying he remained a fan of Maclin but was disappointed by his tweet:

Maclin further explained his position in response:

"

@MatthewBerryTMR you of all ppl should know what my tweet means...football is about what a team achieves. You taking it way too far talking about my salary etc.

"
"

@MatthewBerryTMR once again you better than this....I'm not insulting anybody who roots for players. I'm frown upon those who will sacrifice a team victory for a fantasy victory...enjoy ur day sir

"

Berry noted Maclin's final point, still standing by his initial point that the player didn't need to insult fans, particularly non-Chiefs fans who rooted for him:
