Berhe Comments After Surgery
Friday, Aug. 28
Berhe took to Twitter on Friday to say "Surgery went great, thank you all for your prayers and well wishes." Berhe also added, prior to previous reports, that there's a high chance he'll play this season.
On Aug. 27, Berhe revealed on his Twitter account that he had a blood clot in his injured calf:
"Thank you all for your well wishes and kind words. Having surgery tomorrow morning on my calf to remove a hardened blood clot. In my nine years of playing football I've never missed a season or even back to back games for that matter, so I'm upset to say the least. Just going to do what I can to help this team win games and right now that's focusing on healing. So keep me in your prayers tomorrow.
"
New York selected Berhe in the fifth round of the 2014 NFL draft. He appeared in all 16 regular-season games for the Giants last year, making 14 combined tackles. The team currently lists him as third in its depth chart at free safety.
A potential timetable for Berhe's return hasn't been announced; however, ESPN.com's Dan Graziano reported he could miss the entirety of the 2015 season. If that's the case, it would be a major blow for Berhe since he was likely to see more playing time this year.
Should New York be without Berhe, it will either have to move Justin Halley up one spot in the depth chart or scour the free-agent market for a replacement at the position.
