Junior Galette Injury Update: Redskins LB Out for Season with Torn Achilles
Washington Redskins head coach Jay Gruden confirmed Thursday that linebacker Junior Galette needs surgery after tearing his left Achilles and is going to miss the entire 2015 season.
Gruden is hopeful the depth the Redskins added at outside linebacker in recent years can help soften the blow of losing one of their marquee offseason additions, as the team noted.
"We do feel good about addressing that position in the draft the past two years with Trent [Murphy] and Preston [Smith]," the coach said.

Galette, who suffered the injury during Wednesday's practice, joined the Redskins last month after getting released by the New Orleans Saints. He racked up 95 combined tackles and 22 sacks for the NFC South squad over the previous two seasons.
ESPN reports Galette remains under investigation by the NFL following an arrest in January for an alleged domestic violence incident. While the charges were dismissed in the case, he could still face punishment from the league.
The injury also cost him $332,000 in salary. Mike Garafolo of Fox Sports stated there was a clause built into his contract that docked him that much from a potential $745,000 if he got injured before the start of the regular season.
So it's a serious setback in multiple ways for the 27-year-old defender. The contract he signed with the Redskins is only a one-year deal, per Spotrac, leaving his future up in the air as he begins the road to recovery.
Washington does feature depth on the outside, as Gruden alluded. Murphy figures to get the first opportunity to crack the starting lineup opposite Ryan Kerrigan, but the coaching staff may opt for a committee approach to get Smith involved as well.
