Connor Barth to Buccaneers: Latest Contract Details, Comments, Reaction

Adam WellsAug 26, 2015

Connor Barth didn't have to wait long to find a new home, as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will sign the 29-year-old kicker.

Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times first reported news of the agreement:

NFL Network's Albert Breer confirmed the deal, also noting that Barth was released by the Denver Broncos earlier in the day. Tampa Bay eventually confirmed the move as well.

Per Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle, Barth's agent, Robert Roche, said the deal is for $2.75 million over two years.

A seven-year veteran, Barth played five years with the Buccaneers from 2009 to 2013. He converted 84.3 percent of his field-goal attempts (91 of 108) during that span and hit all 110 of his extra-point attempts.

Auman also pointed out how well Barth performed as a member of the Broncos last season:

Barth has been money from inside 50 yards throughout his career, missing just 13 of his 136 attempts. Bucs kicker Pat Murray was solid as a rookie in 2014, hitting 20 of his 24 attempts, but he doesn't bring with him the track record that Barth does.

Finding consistency at the kicker position is essential for every team. The Buccaneers know Barth as well as anyone, so bringing him in to compete with Murray is a smart tactical move for the team.
