49ers vs. Broncos: Preseason Ticket Info, Date, TV Schedule and Live Stream

Timothy RappAug 27, 2015

The San Francisco 49ers reached the Super Bowl in 2012 and the Denver Broncos reached the big game in 2014, though both failed to win their respective contest. The fates of the two successful organizations split in 2014, however, as the Niners had a rough season while the Broncos once again reached the postseason.

Now, these teams will meet in the third week of the preseason, when fans will get to see a longer look at each team's stars and key veterans. It's a chance for both new coaches—Jim Tomsula in San Francisco and Gary Kubiak in Denver—to put in a full game plan and show off what the new direction for each franchise might look like.

SANTA CLARA, CA - AUGUST 7: Jarryd Hayne #38 of the San Francisco 49ers runs drills during a practice session at Levi's Stadium on August 7, 2015 in Santa Clara, California. Hayne formerly played professional rugby league in Australia for the Parramatta E

While a lot has changed for both organizations this offseason, the transformation in San Francisco has been particularly drastic, with Frank Gore and Michael Crabtree leaving in free agency, Patrick Willis, Chris Borland and Justin Smith all retiring and Aldon Smith cut by the team.

It's a new day in San Francisco. The question this season will be whether it's a better one.

While the defense will obviously have a new look, the offense has been transformed as well. Free-agent signee Torrey Smith will give the team a deep option, while running backs Carlos Hyde and Reggie Bush will look to prove they can replace the steady and reliable Gore.

Colin Kaepernick will also be hoping Anquan Boldin continues to give him a reliable target in the passing game, while Vernon Davis will need to have a resurgent season to give this passing game more bite.

Passing might be tough against a Denver pass rush featuring Von Miller, DeMarcus Ware and rookie Shane Ray and a secondary featuring lockdown corners Chris Harris and Aqib Talib and safety T.J. Ward.

And then there's Jarryd Hayne, the former Australian rugby star who is looking to make the team as a running back, returner and special teams contributor. He's certainly become a fan favorite in San Francisco and has become one of the preseason's most intriguing stories as he tries to make the team.

Heck, even former coach, broadcaster and face of EA Sports' Madden video game franchise, John Madden, is captivated.

"He's come all the way from, 'Geez, that's a nice story', rugby player, all these things to,`Doggone, right now he's a pretty good player, maybe he'll make the team,'" Madden told KCBS radio (via the Brisbane Times). "Right now, I think he has to make the team."

He added,  "The big thing for me is his vision, the way he runs and sees, but the fact that he can catch the ball. That's the big thing with a punt returner. This guy looks like he's a great catcher of the punt. He can catch the ball anywhere."

When a man with as distinguished a career as Madden sings your praises, well, you're doing something right.

Hayne isn't the only newcomer to impress, as Chris Simms of Bleacher Report broke down:

Of course, a whole lot of folks have sung the praises of Peyton Manning, the quarterback leading the charge for Denver. He'll get an extended run against the Niners as the Broncos' dangerous offense looks to iron out the kinks before the young guys and fringe players on the roster take over for the team's final preseason contest.

Manning will have the ever-dangerous Demaryius Thomas at his disposal, while last year's breakout star, C.J. Anderson, will be an even larger focal point this season in Kubiak's new offensive scheme. He'll likely be without Emmanuel Sanders, however, as the star wideout is nursing a hamstring injury and has been held out of practice.

The team did bolster the offensive line this week, however, signing free-agent guard Evan Mathis, per Jeff Legwold of ESPN.com. Mathis projects as the team's starting left guard, though it remains to be seen if he'll get the nod Saturday against San Francisco.

Regardless of who lines up in front of him, Manning promises to be difficult to sack for the Niners.

"I think Peyton, you know, he just knows what you're going to do before you do it," Broncos linebacker Von Miller told Legwold. "He's not going to scramble around, he's going to get the ball out before you get there."

The Niners will try to test that theory on Saturday night. Don't count on them suddenly cracking the Manning code.
