'Madden 16' Glitch Causes Phantom Interception by Ghost Defender

Dan CarsonAug 26, 2015

Madden 16 debuted Tuesday night, and like most newborn games with infinitely complex layers of coding, it's experiencing some first-step hiccups.

More specifically, there are ghosts running on the field, intercepting passes and taking them to the house.

Footage uploaded to Gify.com shows the glitch play out in a game between the New York Jets and the Detroit Lions.

I mean, poor Bryce Petty can't catch a break. The guy throws against oxygen, and it's six the other way:

Drive goal, Bilal Powell!

Looking at the footage with the limited video game coding knowledge I have, there seems to be more than a skinning error at fault here.

The game doesn't even give a Lions player credit for the touchdown, ruling out the fun possibility that at some point, developers at EA Sports looked at the defensive backs on the Lions' 2015 depth chart and said, "Make one clear. It'll be like a metaphor."

In any case, be aware you may end up throwing a ball to Casper if you're playing Madden 16 at this early stage. Don't view it as a setback; look at it like a sacrifice to the gaming gods.

Dan is on Twitter. He hasn't ruled out digital Tebow wielding the Holy Ghost against New York.
