Del Bosque Comments on Valdes' Future with Spain After Being Named in United Squad
Saturday, Sept. 5
“[Valdes] is a reflection that I've thought long about. We lacked a bit of courage to call him up,” said Vicente del Bosque when discussing Valdes' omission, per Football Espana, before adding:
"Victor's case is especially unique for everyone [connected to the national team].
His conduct when he was behind Iker [Casillas] and [Pepe] Reina was fantastic.
He's one of the most committed players to have ever represented the national team. We're stronger with him in the squad.

Besiktas Deal for Valdes 'Collapses'
Sunday, Aug. 30
"Manchester United goalkeeper Victor Valdes' proposed transfer to Turkish side Besiktas has collapsed," reported BBC's Simon Stone. "A source close to Valdes said Besiktas attempted to change the terms of an agreed deal and the 33-year-old has now backed out of the move."
Sky Sports News HQ reported on Aug. 26 that an agreement had been struck between the two parties.
Valdes signed for United on a free transfer midway through the 2014-15 season with a big reputation attached. The Spain international was the man between the sticks as Pep Guardiola’s iconic Barcelona team swept all before them, and as such, the ex-Blaugrana star was expected to challenge David De Gea for the No. 1 jersey at Old Trafford.
Here's a look at what he can offer at full tilt:
But despite making a couple of Premier League appearances at the end of last term, it became apparent this summer that Valdes had no future with the Red Devils. As noted by Jamie Jackson of the Guardian, manager Louis van Gaal accused the goalkeeper of refusing to play for the reserve team, a claim that was subsequently refuted by Valdes.

A move seemed inevitable as a result, and the 33-year-old looked set to be the latest high-profile Manchester United player to trade the Premier League for the Super Lig in Turkey. Robin van Persie and Nani both left Old Trafford for Fenerbahce earlier in the transfer window. It remains to be seen why the deal "collapsed" but should certainly spark interest from fans.
Valdes has not played regular football since suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury back in March 2014.
