Liverpool stars Jordon Ibe and Joe Gomez have been awarded their first call-ups for England's under-21 team, joining Gareth Southgate's 23-man squad for their upcoming friendly against the USA and the Euro U21 qualifier against Norway.

The Reds' duo are joined by a host of big names, including Arsenal's Calum Chambers, Tottenham Hotspur's Eric Dier, Manchester United's James Wilson and Chelsea's Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

Ibe and Gomez have both enjoyed excellent starts to the 2015-16 Premier League season, with the latter in particular impressing after joining the Reds from Charlton Athletic earlier this summer. The 18-year-old has started all of Liverpool's matches so far, leaving quite the impression on the Daily Mail's Dominic King:

While it may only be Gomez's first call-up to the squad, the Liverpool youngster has a solid chance of starting at least one of the two matches. Arsenal's Chambers has struggled early in the 2015-16 campaign and looked completely lost on Monday against Liverpool, prompting this reaction from Bleacher Report UK:

Notable absentees from the squad include Everton's John Stones and United's Luke Shaw, but the duo are likely to be called up to the senior side.

England will play the USA on Thursday, September 3, before starting their qualifying campaign against Norway the following Monday.
