Bishop's Injury Not Considered Serious

Head coach Jim Tomsula said Bishop would require "a little procedure" on his left thumb, per Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee, though he didn't specify the amount of time Bishop would miss, according to Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area.
Bishop, 31, was signed by the team before Week 16 of last season and finished the year with three tackles while primarily playing a role on special teams. But with Patrick Willis and Chris Borland each retiring before this season, the Niners decided to re-sign the veteran to a one-year deal this offseason.
While NaVorro Bowman and Michael Wilhoite are the presumed starters, Bishop is an important piece for depth and a nice option for the team on special teams, so his return before the start of the regular season would be beneficial for a team that saw the position decimated by surprise retirements this offseason.
