This wasn't how the coach drew up the play, but he can't complain about the result.
On Friday night, Kahuku (Kahuku, Hawaii) High School's Stokes Botelho had the opportunity to field a punt against Henry J. Kaiser (Honolulu, Hawaii) High School. Once he grabbed the ball around his own 42-yard line, craziness ensued.
Botelho avoided getting tackled right away by running across the field rather than running forward. He managed to pick up about five yards before encountering a defender, who stripped the football.
The ball bounced a few yards before being jolted forward a few yards by a defender. Despite a group of players going after the ball in the middle of the field, nobody was able to gain possession. The ball somehow made its way all the way back to Botelho, who was ready to redeem himself.
Botelho managed to get to the sideline as he tried to make something happen. With the help of a huge block, he made it all the way to the end zone.
It wasn't the prettiest play ever, but it didn't need to be. Botelho didn't hang his head after the fumble. Instead, he stayed alert and made a play when the ball came back to him.
As this play shows, everything went Kahuku's way in this game. The Red Raiders cruised to a 34-3 victory.
