Steve SilvermanAug 24, 2015

Four teams will be eliminated from championship consideration Monday at the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

The eight teams with 1-1 records will be in action at Volunteer and Lamade Stadiums, and the winners will remain in contention. Two games will be played on the international side of the bracket, while two games involving U.S. teams will also be contested.

Additionally, a consolation game between Northwest Regional champion Wilshire-Riverside and the Dominican Republic, the Caribbean regional representative, will also be played. Both of those teams have already been eliminated after losing their first two games of the tournament.

Northwood fell behind 6-0, but rallied and had pulled within 6-4 heading into the sixth inning. Red Land recorded two quick outs, but the never-say-die South Carolina team rallied when Brock Myers hit a bases-loaded triple that turned the deficit into a 7-6 lead.

Northwood added another run, but the Red Land bats came alive and sent Northwood to a hard-fought 9-8 defeat. The South Carolina team will try to overcome that loss and remain alive against Bowling Green of Kentucky. The Great Lakes representative defeated Wilshire-Riverside Saturday.

Sweetwater Valley of California will try to stay alive against Cranston Western in the 8 p.m. game at Lamade Stadium. The West regional champions dropped an 8-4 decision to Pearland West Sunday, as their big bats could not solve the Texans' pitching. Dante Schmid belted a three-run homer for Sweetwater Valley in the loss.

Mexico and Australia will square off on the international side in a 2 p.m. start at Volunteer Stadium. The Mexican team struggled in a 3-1 loss to Japan Sunday. Gerardo Lujano belted a home run in the loss, but the rest of the offense was unable to solve the Japanese pitching.

Chinese-Taipei and Uganda will meet in the other international elimination game. Uganda dropped a 7-0 decision to Venezuela, as the Europe-Africa regional champions were perplexed by Venezuelan pitching. Ugandan hitters struck out 14 times against Luis Castillo, and they will have to do much better if they are going to overcome the Asia-Pacific regional champions.
