Report: Toon Out 2-3 Weeks with Ankle Injury

Sunday, August 23

According to Fox Sports' Ross Jones, Toon will be out of the lineup for two to three weeks, putting his status for Week 1 of the regular season up in the air.

Toon has recorded just 21 receptions since the Saints chose him in the fourth round of the 2012 draft. There isn't a lot of depth in New Orleans' receiving corps, either. Aging elite quarterback Drew Brees can only carry so much of the load with a dearth of options in his supporting cast.

WWL 870AM's Steve Geller recently questioned whether Toon should even make the final roster:

Last year's first-round pick, Brandin Cooks, and veteran Marques Colston are the clear top two targets, but the Saints need another pass-catcher to step up since the team traded away superstar tight end Jimmy Graham to Seattle.

The talented Joseph Morgan has averaged 33.6 yards on 14 career catches but has been plagued by knee problems that caused him to miss 2013 and a suspension last season.

The next men on the receiver depth chart include Seantavius Jones, Brandon Coleman and Willie Snead. All were undrafted free agents in 2014. Josh Morgan is the most experienced player but has just 30 receptions in the past two seasons combined.
