Pacific Classic 2015 Results: Winner, Purse Payouts and Order of Finish
One of the best races on the summer circuit, the Pacific Classic never disappoints. With a purse of $1 million on the line, some of the country's best horses make the trip to Del Mar Thoroughbred Club to make a 1 1/4-mile trek over a speedy dirt track.
This year, one of the sports top females, Beholder, ran up against the boys and turned in a truly dominant performance, besting Breeders' Cup Classic champion Bayern, as well as a slew of other Graded Stakes winners.
Behind her, Catch a Flight and Red Vine rounded out the first-, second- and third-place finishers.
Beholder put on a show for the ages at Del Mar, and now it's time to take a look at just how she did it. Before that, though, be sure to take a look at the final order of finish, payouts and race replay for the 2015 Pacific Classic.

Race Recap
Breaking first from the gate was the ever-speedy Bayern. The defending Breeders' Cup Classic champion got out to an early lead and Midnight Storm followed closely.
Rafael Bejarano did his best to slow down the pace on the front end, working out to a quarter mile in 22.36 seconds, and a half-mile in 45.45 seconds. The pace was hot, though, and the duo of Midnight Storm and Tyler Baze continued to push the pace. Richard Mandella (via Railbird on Twitter) said Beholder's performance "took his breath away":
At the 3/4-mile mark, it became clear that this was Beholder's race to lose. The 2-1 post-time favorite breezed past Bayern as both he and Midnight Storm petered out toward the back of the pack.
Meanwhile, Beholder continued to open up on the field, as the veteran mare ended up working out a eight-length victory in a time of 1:59.77—just 3/5 of a second off the track record. TVG was obviously impressed with Beholder's win:
For her efforts, Beholder became the first female to ever win the Pacific Classic. Meanwhile, Hall of Fame jockey Gary Stevens logged his second Pacific Classic victory and his first since he navigated Bertrando to a win back in 1993.
Beholder looked every bit the part in this race and is becoming ever-more accustomed to life in the winner's circle.
Behind her, racing out of the seven position, Catch a Flight managed a second-place finish. His ability to jump up for second gave trainer Richard Mandella the double in the race, as he cashed in first- and second-place showings with his trainees.
Catch a Flight ran a solid race in his own right, running steadily along in the middle of the pack, but he never quite forwardly placed enough to get in a good run with Beholder.
All-in-all, it was a truly dominating performance for Beholder, who may very well be the best female in the world right now.
