Matt Barkley Traded to Arizona Cardinals

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Matt Barkley has been traded to the Arizona Cardinals with just under a week before the 2015 NFL regular season begins. 

Fox Sports' Jay Glazer first reported a deal was close, and the Eagles later confirmed the move was official.  ESPN's Adam Schefter later added the Eagles will receive a conditional seventh-round pick in return, with Philadelphia getting the pick if Barkley is on the roster for six games. 

ESPN's Dianna Marie Russini reported on Aug. 22 Barkley would be on the move if the right offer presents itself.

In the first two seasons of his NFL career, Barkley has appeared in just four games, backing up the likes of Nick Foles and Mark Sanchez. As part of a revamped 2015 roster that sees him behind Sam Bradford and Sanchez, it now appears Tim Tebow has beaten him out as the third QB on the roster. 

Throwing for exactly 300 yards in two seasons with the Eagles, Barkley has appeared to have taken a step forward toward developing into a legitimate NFL quarterback, according to CBSSports.com's Jason La Canfora:

Barkley was more effective than I imagined he'd be -- although keep in mind the level of competition -- and he had this looking and feeling like a real Kelly production during his extended run under center. The Eagles picked up yards in chunks, Barkley spread the ball around and they moved at the rapid pace we've come to expect.

"

Now Barkley will have the ability to learn from another former USC QB in Carson Palmer.
