Pirates' Paul Skenes Tries Sumo Wrestling in Trending Video Amid MLB Offseason

Pittsburgh Pirates ace Paul Skenes tried out a new sport during the offseason.

Skenes recently participated in some sumo wrestling while visiting Japan in a video posted on X.

The right-hander started 32 games during his 2026 campaign, posting a 10-11 record to go along with a 3.82 ERA and 1.119 WHIP. He racked up 200 strikeouts compared to 49 walks in 174.1 innings of work.

While Skenes' production slightly declined compared to the first two seasons of his career in which he compiled a 1.96 ERA and earned National League Cy Young Award recognition in 2025, he still earned his third consecutive All-Star nod this year.
