Seahawks vs. Chiefs: Score and Twitter Reaction from 2015 Preseason
The Kansas City Chiefs used a consistent effort from their first and second units to defeat the Seattle Seahawks 14-13 on Friday night at Arrowhead Stadium.
With two of the league's better defenses, it was only natural that it would be a tight affair, with the Chiefs slightly outgaining the Seahawks in total yardage, 238 to 227.
And the defenses set the tone to start, as each side failed to score for the game's first 20 minutes. In fact, the teams combined for just 52 yards in the game's first 10 minutes.

But things finally opened up toward the end of the quarter, as quarterback Alex Smith engineered the game's first legitimate drive.
A 14-play, 83-yard drive was capped by a receiving touchdown from Jeremy Maclin, who is preparing for his first season with the Chiefs after six seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles. He's already helping out his new quarterback big time, breaking a very long passing-touchdown drought as the NFL noted for the game's first score:
CBS Sports' Jamey Eisenberg's excitement was muted once he took a look at the calendar:
At this point, the two-time defending NFC champions' resiliency should not be called into question—even if it is in the preseason.
Though they waited until there was less than three minutes left in the first half, a Steven Hauschka 39-yard field goal brought Seattle within four. They had to wait just 16 seconds to take the lead, as Bobby Wagner picked off a Smith pass and returned it 25 yards for the touchdown.
The NFL provided the replay:
With a passing touchdown to each team, Smith finished his day with an 11-of-18 effort for 81 yards, unable to establish any deep plays on Friday.
His counterpart, Russell Wilson, was quiet on the day, going 9-of-15 for 78 yards. But he was constantly under pressure, as the News Tribune's Gregg Bell saw Wilson struggling to find his new target, tight end Jimmy Graham:
"If this O-line gives Russell Wilson the time to find him downfield, Jimmy Graham will revolutionize Seahawks' passing offense. Only reason Russell Wilson completed 2x to Jimmy Graham was he finally had time to look downfield for him.
"
Backup Chiefs quarterback Chase Daniel surpassed Smith's first-half numbers in one quarter, going 8-of-10 for 82 yards, hooking up with rookie tight end James O'Shaughnessy for a one-yard touchdown.
Daniel's touchdown pass was an absolute laser, threading an attempt in between a pair of defenders to find O'Shaugnessy as the NFL highlighted:
After that drive, his preseason numbers were stellar; NFL.com's Chris Wesseling began campaigning for the Kansas City backup:
The Kansas City defense did well to shut down Seattle's second unit, only allowing three points in the final two quarters. Seattle was only able to attain 13 first downs on the night, compared to the Chiefs' 20. It isn't often that the Seahawks defense is out-shined, but Kansas City managed to do so to move to 2-0 in the preseason.
