5-Star SG Sydney Savoury Commits to UConn over UNC, Notre Dame, UCLA, More
UConn women's basketball coach Geno Auriemma has secured a top-10 recruit for the 2027 class.
Five-star shooting guard Sydney Savoury has committed to UConn over other options including UNC, Notre Dame and UCLA, she told ESPN's Shane Laflin.
Listed at 6'0", Savoury plays for Belleville High School in Michigan. She is ranked by 247Sports as the No. 5 overall prospect and No. 2 shooting guard in the country.
Savoury was named Gatorade's 2025 Michigan Girls Basketball Player of the Year after averaging 27.7 points, 7.1 rebounds and four assists as a sophomore to lead Belleville to a 23-1 record and the DI regional semifinals.
She most recently averaged 27 points, seven rebounds and three assists in her junior season while leading her team to a 25-2 record and DI quarterfinal appearance.
Savoury contributed to Team USA's run to gold at the 2026 FIBA U18 Women's AmeriCup Tournament in June before she was celebrated as MVP of the Nike EYBL Tournament of Champions.
Jared Ramsey of the Detroit Free Press described Savoury as "one of [Belleville]'s main point-of-attack defenders in their trap-heavy defensive scheme."
Laflin reported Savoury "projects as an aggressive scoring guard who can hunt 3-pointers early and often while also creating opportunities for others."
"Her defensive physicality and rebounding will fit the Huskies' up-tempo style and give Auriemma more defensive flexibility," Laflin reported.
Auriemma could now hope Savoury's commitment helps draw other top prospects to the program.
Point guard Kaleena Smith, ranked as the top recruit in the 2027 class, has been connected to an interest in the Huskies. She is scheduled to make her official visit to UConn on Friday, according to CT Insider's Maggie Vanoni.
UConn, which was ranked No. 2 in the AP preseason poll, will look to bounce back from Thursday's loss at No. 5 Michigan on Sunday when it hosts No. 10 Iowa.
