Foye Oluokun Says Jaguars Can't Let Wins 'Mask Stuff,' Team Needs to Improve After Win vs. Ravens
The Jacksonville Jaguars improved to 6-2 after trouncing the Baltimore Ravens in a 33-10 victory on Thursday Night Football.
The Jaguars hold a comfortable lead in the AFC South and look primed for another division title, but Jaguars linebacker Foye Oluokun doesn't want the team to rest on their laurels.
"You win and it feels great," Oluokun told reporters. "We can't let wins mask stuff. You've always got stuff to improve. I've been here a while, went through winning, winning, winning, and one season, we let a lot slide because we were winning. So we got to keep learning in wins and stuff because it's all about who's playing the best in December and then we make that run [in] January and February. We got to keep improving all the way through the year, get the advantageous situation going into the playoffs."
The most advantageous situation in the playoffs would be the No. 1 seed in the conference, which would award Jacksonville with a first-round bye and home-field advantage throughout the postseason.
Jacksonville currently holds the No. 3 seed in the AFC, behind only the Denver Broncos and Buffalo Bills. Denver holds the head-to-head tiebreaker against the Jaguars due to Jacksonville's 20-13 loss at Mile High Stadium in Week 2.
The Jaguars have enjoyed success under second-year head coach Liam Coen, but Oluokun has been in Jacksonville long enough to remember the lean years. The veteran linebacker is in his ninth NFL season, five of which he has spent in Jacksonville.
The year the Jaguars "let a lot slide" was likely during the 2023 season. Jacksonville began that campaign with an 8-3 record, but the team collapsed in December and lost five of its final six games. The Jaguars missed the playoffs and fired head coach Doug Pederson after the disappointing finish.
Oluokun finished Thursday night's game with a team-high seven tackles to go along with a sack and a tackle for loss. He currently leads the team with 58 combined tackles, which puts him on pace to surpass 100 tackles for the seventh consecutive season.
