Myles Garrett Injury Update, Latest on Rams Star's Status vs. Commanders

Mike ChiariNov 6, 2026

Los Angeles Rams superstar pass-rusher Myles Garrett is set to return to the lineup against the Washington Commanders on Sunday.

Rams head coach Sean McVay told reporters Garrett is expected to play on Sunday after NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reported Garrett was "on track to be activated" after practicing all week.

Garrett has not played since Week 1, as he underwent arthroscopic knee surgery and was placed on injured reserve following the Rams' season-opening loss to the San Francisco 49ers.

L.A. made the blockbuster trade of the offseason when it acquired Garrett from the Cleveland Browns in exchange for pass-rusher Jared Verse, a 2027 first-round pick, and 2028 second-round pick and a 2029 third-round pick.

A seven-time Pro Bowler, five-time First Team All-Pro and two-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year, Garrett was coming off the best season of his career.

The 30-year-old veteran set the single-season NFL sack record in 2025 with 23, and the Rams likely assumed they would get something resembling that level of production out of him.

However, Garrett did not look himself in Week 1 after battling a knee injury during training camp and the preseason, and the decision was made for him to undergo surgery and heal up.

Given that the Rams entered the season as the clear Super Bowl favorites, the 2026 campaign has been largely disappointing thus far.

Los Angeles has a 4-4 record, placing it third in the NFC West, and it would not be a playoff team if the season ended today.

Garrett could give the defense a significant lift if he is fully healthy and back to his usual form, though, which is ideal with winnable games on tap against the Commanders and Arizona Cardinals the next two week.

The schedule gets tougher after that with games against the Green Bay Packers, Kansas City Chiefs and 49ers, and the Rams' likely hope by that point is that Garrett will have knocked off the rust and be positioned to contribute in a major way.
